INSTITUTION OF  SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (ISHEM) admits and register safety professionals who have satisfactorily passed its Basic Certificate, Professional Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Post-Graduate Diploma examinations. HSE/SHE professionals are admitted into appropriate grades of membership-ASHEM, MSHEM, FSHEM.

ISHEM promotes high standards of professionalism in safety, health and   environmental management practice through education, training, meetings, conferences and information on latest HSE developments, accident prevention/reduction strategies, technology and innovation in relation to Risks and Hazards in terms of assessment, abatement, oversight and regulatory compliance,  general administration of HSE etc. ISHEM is a COPOM non-profit establishment that propagates safety as the most vital component of value. COPOM- the College of Production and Operations Management was registered by the Federal Government in 2003 to provide professional education, training, publications and management consultancy services in all aspect of operations management with the power to establish and manage education and training institutions, centres, and schools; to organize specialists (such as security and safety/HSE specialists), to provide tuition, training facilities, conduct examinations and administer Diploma programmes and other qualifications.

Institute for Security Operations Management (ISOM) is a membership-based research, education and training institution that promotes safety and crime prevention. Members meet and learn how to strategically, tactically and sustainably manage their organizations, security departments, operations and teams to ensure peace, safety of lives and property and total protection.   The Institute admits members into the Associate, Member and Fellow categories, conducts Certificate, Diploma,

 

Advanced Diploma and Post-Graduate Diploma Programmes and gives Awards to encourage and reward Excellence. The Institute is a COPOM non-profit institution. Security Operations is an aspect of Operations Management which comes under the mandate of COPOM education, training and certification.

 

  • SOCIETY FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (SOHSEM)

The Society for Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management (SOHSEM) is a division of the Nigerian Institute of Production Management (NIPM) which regulates HSE standards and promotes good safety practices in industries. NIPM regulates the practice of production and operations management in Nigeria and provides professional education in all aspects of Production and Operations Management. Health and Safety at work is a line responsibility of Production and Operations Managers as well as the job of Safety Specialists. The Safety or HSE Specialists are to implement broad HSE policy of the organization, maintain OHSE standards, develop and organize programmes and provide support etc. SOHSEM propagates ”Zero Accident” through safe  work practices and improved production systems, methods and processes, team work between the line managers, HR and HSE specialists and sharing of global best practices.   • NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT (NIPM)

The Nigerian Institute of Production Management (NIPM)is the professional regulatory body of production and operations management in Nigeria by virtue of the extant laws CAM Act, 1990 CAP  C20 2004 Laws of Federation. Safety professionals or HSE Specialists collaborate with Production and Operations Directors, Managers on responsibility for safety, occupational health and environmental management. The Institute has made tremendous impact in the nation’s manufacturing sector having been involved in safety education and training in many reputable organizations over the years. Optimum Resources Safety Institute partners with NIPM-SOHSEM to conduct open and In-House Training Courses as well as Distance Learning Professional Diploma, Advanced Diploma and PDG Programmes. NIPM admits HSE/SHE/Health and Safety Managers as Associate Members and after successful completion of Advanced Diploma courses in HSE. Health and Safety Managers work in production and operations environment. They are part of the Operations Team.
